Many agree that the new 5G technology is the next big thing. However, Apple won’t be participating…yet.  Later this year, Apple plans to release the new iPhone but it will not come with 5G capabilities. Here’s why:
Apple’s partnership with chipmaker Intel experienced a setback in 5G chip production. Reportedly, the chips were having connectivity problems. As a result, Apple was forced to remove the chip from its 2019 iPhones. On the other hand, Android smartphone makers partnered with Qualcomm to make chips that let devices connect to 5G networks in the U.S. and Korea.Â
Rather than continue years of dispute, Apple has decided to work with Qualcomm after the settling their high-profile case. Now, Apple is now working with Qualcomm, but iPhone will likely have to wait until 2020 to get their hands on a 5G phone.
Â
If you are dying to get your hands on a 5G phone, there are a handful of Android smartphones that will be 5G capable this year, including Samsung’s Galaxy S10 5G, OnePlus 7, Galaxy Note 10, and others.
Keep in mind, however, that Verizon’s 5G service is only currently available in the U.S. in Chicago and Minneapolis. Of course both AT&T and Verizon have spoken about plans to expand their 5G markets.
This is actually good news for iPhone users. By 2020, 5G networks should be much more widely available, so if Apple can have a 5G iPhone ready by then, the company may not be too far behind in the 5G world.
