Samsung Says Smart TVs Can Get Viruses Too

Samsung revealed in a tweet that WiFi-connected smart TVs are vulnerable to viruses just like computers. For unknown reasons, the company deleted the tweet. However, Samsung claims that it didn’t tweet this to alert or cause panic with Samsung smart TV owners, but instead to educate people about smart TVs.

The original tweet featured a video about scanning your TV to prevent malware. You can still find the video on Samsung’s TV support pages. If you want to visually see the steps to take on how to scan your TV for malware, watch the video linked above. Otherwise, here are the four steps to take:

  1. Use your remote to navigate to your Samsung’s TV’s setting menu, then select “General
  2. Select System Manager.
  3. From this menu, select Smart Security.
  4. Select Scan

That’s it. Now, wait for the results of the scan. If a virus or malware is detected, call Samsung’s support right away.
