In the latest episode of the Security Stories podcast, we welcome three leaders from Cisco Talos for a discussion on mental health, stress and burnout. Check it out on your podcast platform of choice, available via the Security Stories webpage.
Joining myself, Ben Nahoney and Sana Yousef, are Matt Watchinski, Vice President of Talos, Matt Olney, Talos’ Head of Threat Intelligence and Interdiction, and Mitch Neff, who leads Talos’ communication strategy and hosts the Beers with Talos podcast.
Together, we share our own experiences about dealing with our mental health and stress levels, both during the pandemic and beyond. We share these experiences from an individual level, as well as our experience managing people within teams. There’s also some advice for managers of managers too.
Matt, Matt and Mitch additionally discuss the mental toll of threat hunting, the fear of repercussion in exposing vulnerabilities, and how we can create safe spaces.
Plus, we talk about making mistakes (Matt W has a great story about a zinger of a mistake he made in the early years of Sourcefire), and overcoming the fear of failure.
We hope that by sharing our experiences, we’re helping to destabilise any stigmas when it comes to talking about mental health. And if you or anyone close to you is struggling at the moment, we hope this helps to inspire you to know that you’re not alone.
