KUALA LUMPUR, 21 JULY 2020 – Microsoft Malaysia is proud to be supporting the Global Compact Network Malaysia (GCMY) as its technology partner, to help the organization drive greater impact and enable Malaysia to meet the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Through this alliance, Microsoft is empowering GCMY’s awareness and outreach efforts with its cloud-based digital solutions, including Microsoft Teams and Power BI.
“The Sustainable Development Goals 2030 has provided a blueprint for shared prosperity in a sustainable world – a world where all people can live productive, vibrant and peaceful lives on a healthy planet. However, as reported in the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals Report 2019, current global efforts were neither moving at the speed nor scale needed to achieve the goals by targeted year. It is even more worrisome is that according to a 2020 report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Asia-Pacific region is not even moving in the right direction consistent with the global agenda,” said Faroze Nadar, Executive Director of GCMY.
“As such, it is important for us to scale and accelerate our sustainable development efforts for us to meet the SDGs by 2030. This will require active engagement and involvement from all stakeholders, including the public and private sectors and we are pleased to have Microsoft Malaysia as our technology partner to support our mission. The #mySPACE4Change is one of the actions we initiated and we hope to further mobilize the private sector in Malaysia to join our #mySDGAction2030 campaign for a more sustainable and resilient Malaysia,” he added.

GCMY is the official local network to the United Nations Global Compact. At a global level, Microsoft has been a partner of UNGC since 2006 and remains firmly committed to the ten principles underlying the UNGC. Each year, Microsoft communicates the sustainable development progress made in line with the UNGC principles and Microsoft’s overall commitment to corporate social responsibility in an annual report.
During the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, Microsoft has been powering GCMY’s engagement and outreach efforts during the current remote environment with its productivity tools. With Microsoft Teams, GCMY successfully organized its first virtual webinar, “Investing in Sustainability: Competitive Advantage for Crisis Recovery”, reaching out to 400 business leaders and decision-makers.
Following the encouraging response, GCMY organized a subsequent webinar focusing on women’s leadership in sustainability. GCMY has also been generating data-driven reports enabled by Microsoft’s Power BI, creating valuable insights for its outreach campaign.
